Post trial motions provide an opportunity for the trial judge to reign in a jury verdict that is out of bounds. The appellate court serves as a check against errors made by the trial judge and the jury. For the process to work, judges must be fair, impartial and knowledgeable about the law. Lawyers must be zelous and ethical advocates. All must be respectful of the process and the process must be worthy of respect. When it work justice is served and participating in the process is rewarding. When it fails it is disappointing and frusterating. Some moments are intense, others can be entertaining. "
